University of Minnesota Varieties

Since the 1980's the University of Minnesota has methodically improved on the efforts of pioneering cold climate grape breeder Elmer Swenson. Grapes tolerant of -30 F with high sugar, low acid combined with disease and pest resistance have launched Minnesota into the commercial wine industry. The University's red and white grape varieties such as Marquette, Frontenac, Frontenac gris, and LaCrescent are the foundation of the Upper Midwest Wine industry.
